Frequently asked questions
- Can I use these as a movement or regulation break?
- Yes, that is the most common use. Ask for a break of a set length and Beacon fits the activity to the minutes you have, the space you are in, and whether the student is seeking or avoiding right then.
- What if I have no budget and no equipment?
- Beacon leans on heavy work, chair and wall pushes, errands, and what is already in a classroom. If an activity needs something you would have to buy, it says so rather than assuming a supply closet.
- Can I run it with a group?
- Tell it the grouping and it suggests something that works for the whole table where that is possible, rather than assuming you can pull one student out.
- How do I tell whether a student is seeking or avoiding?
- Seekers are often in motion, crashing, mouthing, touching everything. Avoiders pull away from noise, light and texture and tend to shut down rather than escalate. Beacon asks which fits and matches to that.
- Is it free and do I need an account?
- You can get one match free with no account. A free account gives you one per tool, Standard gives 3 a month, and Plus or Annual is unlimited.
