What is IEP progress monitoring?

It is the ongoing collection of data against each IEP goal, so the team can say whether a student is on track rather than guessing at the annual review. It is a legal requirement of the IEP, and the reporting schedule is written into the document itself. The hard part is rarely the method, it is capturing the data point while you are teaching.

How often should IEP progress be monitored?

The IEP itself sets the reporting schedule, most often quarterly alongside report cards, but the underlying data has to be collected far more frequently than it is reported. Weekly is a common working rhythm for a goal in active instruction. Beacon flags a student who has no data this week so a gap is visible in days rather than at the end of the quarter.

What should an IEP data tracking sheet include?

The goal it belongs to, the date, the value recorded, the number of opportunities that value came out of, the level of adult support given, and who collected it. The opportunity count is the field most often left off, and without it a bare score cannot be compared to the goal's criterion later.

Do I still need my district's IEP system?

Yes. Beacon is a working record for the data between meetings, not a replacement for the official document. Your district's system stays the system of record, and the export gives you the numbers to put into it in Excel or PDF.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

You can read one page free with no account and see exactly what Beacon takes off it, and there is a worked example roster to look at as well. Nothing from the free read is saved. Tracking a real caseload needs a free account, which covers a starter number of students, and the paid tiers raise that cap.
